1. MailChimp Embedded Form

If you need audience members to be tagged as they are added to your list, the easiest thing to do is embed a Mailchimp form on your site.

How to Embed a Mailchimp Form: Sign into your MailChimp account > navigate to the Audience dashboard > choose the correct “current audience” from the dropdown > under “Audience” select Signup Forms > select Embedded Forms, from here you can choose the form style, input fields, and tags. Copy the generated form code and paste into a Squarespace code block on the page where you want the form to display. For more information, see Mailchimp’s help article.

Example: This simple Mailchimp form will add you to Collaborada’s audience:

2. Squarespace Newsletter Blocks

This is as straightforward as it sounds: add a Squarespace Newsletter Block where desired. You have a few options when styling newsletter blocks — you can edit or remove the surrounding title, description, and disclaimer if desired. And you can require first and last name if needed. Note, if you need to collect more data, explore form blocks (below).

How to Connect Squarespace Newsletters to Mailchimp: After adding a newsletter block to your page, navigate to the tab that says Storage > Other Storage Options > connect to Mailchimp and sign into your account > choose the correct audience.

Example: A sample newsletter block is displayed below:

3. Squarespace Form Blocks

Another straightforward solution: a Squarespace Form Block can be useful if you want to collect more information than just name and email.

How to Connect Squarespace Forms to Mailchimp: After adding a form block to your page, navigate to the tab that says Storage > Additional Storage > connect to Mailchimp and sign into your account > choose the correct audience from the list.

Note, it is not advised to send general contact page forms into Mailchimp, as users do not expect to sign up for an email marketing list when they reach out via a contact form. If you plan to do this, include a required checkbox that the user must opt into.

Example: Below is a simple Squarespace Form connected to Mailchimp that will add you to Collaborada’s email list:

4. Pop-ups

Both Squarespace and Mailchimp offer email pop-ups. There are differences in the two platforms in terms of functionality and design, so select whichever one meets your needs. And you could use both pop-ups to address two different sets of requirements.

Note, these solutions require the Squarespace Business Plan or higher, learn more about Squarespace pricing.

How to use Squarespace Pop-ups: Visit Marketing > Promotional Pop-up > toggle on and proceed with setup. Read more about Squarespace pop-ups.

How to use Mailchimp Pop-ups: Sign into your MailChimp account > navigate to the Audience dashboard > choose the correct “current audience” from the dropdown > under “Manage Audience” select Signup Forms > select Subscriber Pop-up, from here you can design the pop-up. Copy the generated code into Settings > Advanced > Squarespace code injection. For more information, see Mailchimp’s help article.

Example: Visit a client site and scroll to see a Mailchimp pop-up, the same site uses the Squarespace newsletter block in the footer.

5. Mailchimp Extension for Squarespace Commerce

In 2021, Squarespace Commerce and Mailchimp announced an integration that pushes Squarespace commerce data (and historical data) for orders, products, and customers into Mailchimp. This feature requires the Squarespace Business or Commerce plan. Note, the extension does not push information related to donations.

How to Use the Squarespace Mailchimp Extension: See Mailchimp’s support documentation to learn more about connecting the integration.
